Yatta Rural Area.

Back

The rural areas of Yatta have a population of approximately 31,000 covering an area of 149,000 dunums. It is the poorest area in the Southern Hebron region, which in itself has been identified by both the Palestinian Participatory Poverty Assessment, undertaken by the Palestinian Ministry of Planning and UNDP, and by the British Government Department for International Development (DFID) as the poorest area in the West Bank.

It is composed of many small, scattered and isolated communities that have become increasingly marginalized. The area has seven major Israeli settlements and is dissected by settlement bye pass roads, which makes mobility extremely difficult and greatly increases the vulnerability of its population.
